Congratulations on being shortlisted for the Fulbright interview. You probably know that Fulbright is a highly competitive space, and you need to prepare it the right way. Without further ado, let’s jump straight into the tips:

A Day Before the Fulbright Interview

First impressions matter a lot. Aim at looking sharp, present, and accurate representation of your personal statement. Sleep well the day before, have a good breakfast, maybe do a 10-minute meditation to calm down your nerves, take out your outfit, and dress to conquer the world.

The Right Approach Matters

This is one of the Fulbright interview tips that I never heard anybody talking about, but it changes your whole perspective. When you are shortlisted, it means the selectors already like you. This gives you a head start. What you need to do is prove them right. This shift in perspective gives you the confidence to ace the interview.

Connect the Dots

My next advice would be to connect the dots. What? Don’t worry and let me explain. You should be clear about why you are applying for a particular degree, what impact it will have on your future and how it will bring positive change to your country.

You have to point out your plan effectively and how this scholarship will help you achieve your goals. So, practice the art of storytelling and use it to your advantage.

Revisit Your Fulbright Application

You might have submitted your Fulbright scholarship a few months ago, and now you might not remember it exactly. A lot of questions will be asked from the application you submitted. If your answers contradict the application, it will not give a great impression.

Revisit the essays and answers to the prompts and make sure you know your application well, and represent yourself in the best possible manner.

Clarity on Future Plans

One thing that will help you ace the interview is being very clear about your future. Aim at mapping out the next ten years of your life in case you get a scholarship. It will help the selectors see that you are a visionary and take the proper steps to turn your vision into a reality. It goes without saying that don’t be smug.

Ask Questions

If you have a particular question in mind, do not hesitate to ask the committee. For instance, asking about networking opportunities shows that you are eager to be a part of the community and learn from the experiences of others, as well as share your valuable insights. The right questions show your genuine interest and that you are not afraid to voice out your queries.

Formulate Your Reasons

If you have switched fields, make sure you have a genuine reason behind it. Inform the interview committee on why you did that. Ideally, your reasoning should be based on information and passion rather than the trend. Include the reason in the ‘where do you see yourself in the next _______ years?’ question.

Stay Calm and Collected

Last but not the least, stay calm and collected through the interview. Work on your nerves. Start meditating a few weeks before the interview. Do some breathing exercises to help you with the stress.
